Jim Chapman in the News: State- and Nationwide

As 2016 Chair of NAHB’s 55+ Housing Industry Council, Jim Chapman was recently profiled in the Association’s online magazine, 55+ Housing: Meet the Chair.

In the article, he remarks about the 55+ market that “Homebuilding is still the tortoise in this race, but we’ll be seeing smarter builders and less volatility, for slow, steady growth for the foreseeable future.”

But that doesn’t mean the 55+ market is slowing down. “It’s now growing 4-7% a year – the fastest-growing component of the single-family sector.”

In the June 2016 issue of Georgia Trend, Anna Bentley interviewed Jim extensively for her feature article, Actively Aging, Resort-style amenities, low-maintenance homes and built-in social networks: Meet the revamped retirement community.

She writes: “Jim Chapman, president of Atlanta-area active adult community firm Jim Chapman Communities, estimates that in more than half of the homes in his communities, at least one member of the household still works. He’s also noticed a downward trend in the age of his homeowners, moving from 72 six to eight years ago to 62.”

Jim Chapman Elected 2016 Chairman of NAHB 55+ Housing Industry Council

The National Association of Home Builders (NAHB) has elected Atlanta’s Jim Chapman, president of Jim Chapman Communities and Jim Chapman Fine Homes as 2016 chairman of the NAHB 55+ Housing Industry Council.

“I am truly honored to be leading the NAHB 55+ Housing Industry Council. It is the most exciting and vibrant new-home market going right now,” said Chapman. “Our Council’s membership is a tremendous resource for builders wanting to learn more about the 55+ housing market, and I hope that our programs for 2016-2017 will elevate our profile and draw other builders into our Council and into our marketplace.”

Chapman is a home building veteran who started his own custom home building firm, Jim Chapman Fine Homes, in 1998. From 1998 through 2005, his firm primarily built custom homes in Buckhead and Alpharetta, Ga., and Highlands, N.C. In 2005, he began to also build and develop an active adult portfolio under the brand of Jim Chapman Communities. JIM CHAPMAN: MORE THAN A BUILDER

Atlanta, GA - A humble Jim Chapman describes himself as a home builder. If you press him, you might get him to say he is a home builder with a passion for what he does. “Design and home building have been my passion for decades,” says Chapman. “I have been blessed to have a career doing something that I truly love to do. Most people do not have that opportunity and I try to never lose sight of that. Building came naturally to me and the more my companies grew, the more people I got to meet -- all kinds of people -- customers, salespeople, regulatory people, trade organization people, political figures -- all of which impacted my life and my career in a positive fashion. As a builder, I learned I could positively affect some people’s lives. As an involved member of some of these important trade organizations and committees I could positively affect an industry that touched thousands of lives.
