Jim Chapman in the News: State- and Nationwide

As 2016 Chair of NAHB’s 55+ Housing Industry Council, Jim Chapman was recently profiled in the Association’s online magazine, 55+ Housing: Meet the Chair.

In the article, he remarks about the 55+ market that “Homebuilding is still the tortoise in this race, but we’ll be seeing smarter builders and less volatility, for slow, steady growth for the foreseeable future.”

But that doesn’t mean the 55+ market is slowing down. “It’s now growing 4-7% a year – the fastest-growing component of the single-family sector.”

In the June 2016 issue of Georgia Trend, Anna Bentley interviewed Jim extensively for her feature article, Actively Aging, Resort-style amenities, low-maintenance homes and built-in social networks: Meet the revamped retirement community.

She writes: “Jim Chapman, president of Atlanta-area active adult community firm Jim Chapman Communities, estimates that in more than half of the homes in his communities, at least one member of the household still works. He’s also noticed a downward trend in the age of his homeowners, moving from 72 six to eight years ago to 62.”

Jim notes: “There’s this huge group of 60-85-year olds who…really very much want to live on their own, but they don’t want to maintain their yard and they don’t want to maintain their home. They want to buy a house that has maintenance free materials. They want a house that allows them to age in place.”

Since Sweet Briar Farms, Jim Chapman’s new 55+ neighborhood in Woodstock, opened for pre-sale in February 2016, 16 contracts have already been signed in the first four months.

“We have not yet started construction, but people absolutely love the rolling landscape and the open vistas of our property here,” says Jim Chapman, president and recognized visionary in today’s 55+ housing industry, and 2016 Chairman of the NAHB 55+ Housing Industry Council. “We also offer great floorplans, outstanding amenities and a superior location – and above all, carefree living. Our community really appeals to the large group of active adults that is ready to start the next great chapter in their lives.”

Constructive connection
“Almost every week, I personally meet potential homebuyers for a 3-hour walking tour through the development and answer any question they may have,” says Chapman. “As the builder and developer, I am able to give answers straight away. Our willingness to share the details of the homes, the amenities and the overall design of the community in person, coupled with the quick responses to all queries by our top agent Micki Craven, make it easier for homebuyers to really see themselves living here. ”
